About Us
Who We Are
The Greater Sacramento area has a significant number of Marathi speaking families. Marathi Mandal Sacramento (MMSac) is an initiative to bring them all together in a celebration of the Maharashtrian culture.
We are a non-profit and charitable organization. Our group celebrates the Indian and Maharashtrian traditions with the support of its member community, local and national businesses.
What We Do
Our mission is to celebrate the Maharashtrian culture, traditions and customs amongst the community in Sacramento and surrounding areas. We achieve this by organizing regular activities and events that will reflect the spirit of our community. Typically in a calendar year, MMSac has been celebrating following events (but can be subject to change)
- Holi (Mar)
- Maharashtra Din / Gudi Padwa (May)
- Ganapati (Sept or Oct)
- Kojagiri (Oct)
- Diwali (Nov)
- Sankrant (Jan)
MMSAC provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talent, It is also a platform for the next generation to understand and preserve our customs and traditions and foster pride for our common language, culture and history. MMSac conducts various workshops through out the year for kids.
We also maintain a literary section (Sahitya) on our website which has received an overwhelming response from our members. In addition, our members also take part in volunteering for larger events in the community such as India Day, held around Indian Independence Day.
We are proud of our local business community for helping us celebrate our wonderful traditions and pass these on to the next generations.
The need for such forum for Marathi speaking families was recognized by Ajit Natu. He initiated the thought process amongst small number of Marathi speaking families about forming the mandal which has now become a reality.
